1970 Volkswagen Van Combi


The 1970 Combi Van was popular in Asia, it is a common Utility Van and the most versatile during 70's. I think volkswagen was the first vehicle type called as a van.

Ang tawag dito noon sa pinas ay Fridgedair (ung sikat na refrigerator noong araw) van. Kasi mukha syang ref na hiniga. Anyway, daming taong nagenjoy sa van na ito, bukod sa malaki at maluwang itoy matibay at bagets ang dating lalo na kapag ang reserve tire eh nasa harapan. Di pa uso ang aircon noon kaya kapag my small electric fan sa loob ang van mo at may kurtina eh class ang dating... tanong nyo sa tatay at nanay nyo.

Nakasakay naba kayo dito? Ako oo yata, marami kasi nito noon sa subdivision namin, pagandahan ng volks noon. Bitin nga lang ang pinto sa likod gawa ng sa makina occupied ung space sa likod pero sa gilid naman eh maluwang ang lagusan. Marimi din nakinabang dito, ginagamit syang ambulansya, family van, utility van, tindahan (buaks ang bintana at nagtitinda sa makati ng sago), pang porma, and etc...

Toyota Corona was first introduce in Japan and Asia in 1969 using introductory name Corona Mark II. The Corona is a latin word for crown, and was sold in shops in Japan. Toyota become massively successful in export markets, and model names inconsistently in different places. Ten years later it was successfully replace by Camry  which has much larger body.

The Toyota Corona 1981 boxtype was also called T130 series Corona and adopted a boxier design. Toyota maintained its standard front engine on rear wheel drive. Toyota Corona was available in w wide range of body styles in markets with four door sedans, two-doors, wagon and five door hatchback. Describing Toyota Corona as a luxury car is considerably has advantage on its big capacity compartment compared to normal sedans. The luxury quiet type shock absorbers and soft road ride gives a credit for toyota’s finest car 1980s.

Isuzu Gemini - 1985

A very popular taxi cab in Manila, however it is used as private vehicle by some companies in Philippines due to its very economical diesel engine.  Isuzu cars like Gemini are known with tough quality body and engines, since it was made in Japan, its parts are very common and sure quality are proven. Isuzu Gemini was a compact sedan car first release to the market in the year 1974 with four door and two door sedan and coupe style, the first of its engine was called PF50 and later it comes with 1.8liter and diesel engine PFD60.

Isuzu Gemini was also common in Japan, Isuzu designed a version of sports feature named Isuzu Gemini ZZ/R, this is equipped with Isuzu G180W 8 valve Engine with fuel injection.



In 1980 – 1985, the well-known Isuzu Gemini reached on its top sales in Philippines. Commonly it was use for taxi cabs from huge taxi companies in Philippines, also traders and companies takes an advantage of having this cars because of its diesel engine and can save gasoline cost. Spare parts of Isuzu Gemini and all other Isuzu cars are not difficult to find in Manila. In proven time, Isuzu Gemini was very tough that its models could not get obsolete in due time. In competition with other taxi cab cars in Philippines, till date Isuzu Gemini leads the role of a model taxi cab that was really a big help for all users and taxi businesses.

1979 - 1988 Mitsubishi Lancer Boxtype

Its a toys for the big boys type of car, Mitsubishi Lancer Boxtype is fun to own because of its very sporty look and can be easily customized by car enthusiast and racers.

The Mitsubishi Lancer Boxtype 1988 was called a second generation Lancer. Mitsubishi Lancer Boxtype Model was marketed in Europe in the name on Lancer EX with turbocharge 4 cylinder engine. Mitsubishi Lancer Boxtype made started in Japan in the year 1979.  It was distributed with entirely new designed engine compared to previous Mitsubishi lancer models and using the new carburetors system equipped with MCA (Mitsubishi Clean Air Engine) passing the US and Japan emission standards. In addition, Mitsubishi Lancer boxtype had improved with its engine noise and vibration for smooth driving experience.

Ford Cortina 1982

It was then one of the popular car in Philippines during the time of President Marcos. Ford Cortina was imported to Philippines during 1982 considered as small family car in Great Britain, however in Philippines it is considered as big sedan car.

The Ford Cortina was sold to mass market extremely well, it was common to Europe but not in other Asian countries, it was proposed to be distributed in Philippines because of the Spanish influences.

Ford Cortina can accommodate tight maximum passengers for more than 5, and its compartment capacity can accommodate at least 4 large luggage. During 80’s most of this vehicles are used to steel materials by private organizations and even human beings can hide to its huge compartment.

The Ford Cortina was produced in five series models named from Mark I to V (1 to 5) and later the last model was named as Ford Cortina 80. In Europe, Ford Cortina’s design was similar to Ford Taunus where in America it is named as Ford Taurus. Some Body parts are shared by this two models on the market. The Ford Cortina models and variants was sold for over a million amount, some car enthusiast treated Ford Cortina as an extinct model. The Ford Cortina name was inspired by Italian name Cortina D Ampezzo which is a town in Southern Benito in Italy.


The Ford Cortina 1982 is a sudden change in both body and engine, it was adjusted with fuel economy and improvement of power output, full options was also in range market for 2.3V6 Engines and given with electronic ignition. For its body, rust proof where applied to make it a lot better than the old Ford Cortina body variants.

In 1982, the Ford Cortina was Great Britains second best selling vehicle and very popular of large family car. Although today Ford Cortina’s existence to Asian Countries had disappear  but in Europe it is now under the ownership of Ford Heritage.

Nissan California - 1989 Model

During the late 90s Nissan California was very popular in Philippines because of its sporty wagon design. Nissan California released and named first distributed in North America in competition with wagon sedan American Cars. Nissan California was the only wagon offered in fastback version in relation with Nissan Sunny or also known as Nissan Sentra in Asia.

Nissan California was the extended Sedan Boxtype version from Nissan Sentra. It was launched during 1966 as Datsun 1000 and later the production ends and distributed as Nissan Sentra and a version of Nissan California.

Nissan California and Nissan Sentra is also known in USA and in Mexi co it is named as Nissan Tsuru.

Nissan California is a compact model line and larger than Nissan March but not as big as Nissan Bluebird or Nissan Maxima. Although Nissan California has no latest version, Nissan Sentra was produced continuously and still very competitive these days. Nissan California 1989 uses Nissan A engine. In Japan Nissan California is a very special model named Sunny California, and its market target was a private buyers and competition from family vans, because vans are usually designed in long back seat in Japan, Nissan California is design to make passengers more comfortable seating in a luxury car sedan.


Usual Nissan California owners in Philippines was a private group or families, Nissan California wagon attracts Philippine buyers because of its compact sporty wagon design and simple size sedan size not like bigger wagons in USA.

Mercedes Benz 240-D (1974)

The Mercedes-Benz, a very popular, luxurious and Obsessive Car Brand. The Mercedes-Benz were introduced in Philippines after the Americans reduced their imports of American cars, one of the successful market car distributed was the Mercedes-Benz 240d were as popularly known in Europe as W115 models.

These models are a series of coupes and sedans introduced in the year 1968 by German Car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz, and a series of production and distribution to the whole world till 1976 with names designed printed on the Engines.

Mercedes-Benz 240D also known as W115 models specified with 4 cylinder engines and distributed in a model series from 200, 220, 230 and 240. All of those Mercedes-Benz were features as a three box design or popularly known in Asia as sedan box type vehicle. Later the Mercedes-Benze designs were given categories with S-Class.

Mercedes-Benz 240D models are part of Mercedes-Benz market as a new model range or cars “New Generation Models” which started in 1968. Major changes in designs was made including the bug type designed and bat type tales were removed and made as furnished trunks with light colors. For Mercedes-Benze ID plates mentioned start No. “8” due to their introductory models in 1968.



History

The Mercedes-Benz / W114/W115 designs were the first production of Mercedes-Benz with the newly engineered chassis of semi training rear arms and ball joints front end. It was used then in all new Mercedes-Benz passenger design vehicles before the upgrade of the multi-link rear suspension that started in 1980’s. However, even 80’s has passed, still so many car enthusiast use this sedan because of its comfort and simple design with tough suspensions.



The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Chassis would be the last design with low-pivot swing axle and king pin wishbone front ends. The same as Mercedes-Benz Saloon car series the Mercedes Benz 240D boosted with advance innovation. In the series of year models of Mercedes-Benz D240 was developed with D-Jetronic fully electronic fuel injection system, also the center console where shown with ribbed taillights. Later Mercedes-Benz D240 coupe models are also introduced in the market with 6 cylinder engine and in some countries like Argentina Mercedes-Benz 220D was uncommonly made as pick-ups.
